My interest in learning Spanish started when I lived in Mexico City for two months.
Then I spent three months in Colombia, and that’s when I decided to get serious about really mastering Spanish.
When you don’t speak the language well, it’s just hard getting around and even doing simple things like ordering food and asking where the bathroom is.
But more than that, after living in Spanish-speaking countries for a few months, understanding the culture and getting deeper into it became a big motivation.
To be able to do that, I had to get really good at conversational Spanish. Not just textbook learning, but really being able to hold in-depth conversations.
I used to experience a lot of frustration, because maybe I could understand what someone was saying, but I could not reply because it took me so long to formulate the sentences.
For example, when I’m hanging out with my friends and I listen to the conversations, I wish I could just jump in and also speak with them, not just laugh nervously.
And trying to talk in Spanish for hours was really tiring. It gave me a headache.
Before I started taking unlimited Spanish lessons with LingoToGo, I had taken two semesters of Spanish in university. But honestly, I don’t really remember anything from that.
The way that the schools structure language courses is just not the best. There’s a lot of grammar, but there’s not a lot of conversational practice. It’s just reading and writing, and learning about rules.
What I really needed was to practice conversations, and just talk a lot. And that’s where LingoToGo came in.
When I started taking Spanish classes at LingoToGo, I realized that I really enjoyed it and I wanted to keep going.
For me, the best thing about taking lessons with LingoToGo is that it’s very flexible. I like being able to choose whatever time I want for a lesson.
I really enjoy the teachers and I really like them.
They’re all very patient.
They’re good at correcting me when I make mistakes so I don’t develop bad habits.
I also enjoy that I can have a lesson with any teacher and they pick off where I left off in the last class. That gives me a lot more flexibility instead of having to always stay with the same teacher.
I also appreciate the class notes that are taken for every class. After the class, I can always go back and refer to the previous lessons and things I learned and new vocabulary that I noted down.
I enjoy the curriculum. Every presentation is structured. Having the explanation and then checking out the verb tense conjugations or whatever with all the examples and having sections where you practice or you do it yourself.
After two months with LingoToGo my Spanish has improved a lot. I understand the grammar much better, but more importantly, I can engage in conversations. Real conversations!
So, now I have my visa and I’m moving to Colombia!
