Irregular Verbs in Spanish Imperfect Tense

The Spanish imperfect tense is used to describe ongoing or repeated actions in the past. As most verbs follow a regular conjugation pattern in this tense, there are only three irregular verbs to remember:

  • Ser (to be)
  • Ir (to go)
  • Ver (to see)

These verbs have unique conjugations in the imperfect tense:

Ser:

Yoera
eras
Él/Ella/Ustedera
Nosotros/nosotraséramos
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedeseran

Ir:

Yoiba
ibas
Él/Ella/Ustediba
Nosotros/nosotrasíbamos
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedesiban

Ver:

Yoveía
veías
Él/Ella/Ustedveía
Nosotros/nosotrasveíamos
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedesveían

Remember these exceptions, as they are commonly used in everyday Spanish conversations. Mastering these irregular verbs will greatly improve your fluency when discussing past events or situations.
