What is an interrogative pronoun in Spanish?

Ok, so first things first.

What exactly is an interrogative pronoun?

Interrogative pronouns are the words we use to ask questions. They go at the beginning of the question. Interrogative pronouns are always written with an accent and can be used in direct or indirect interrogative sentences.

Ok, that was a bit of a mouthful. So let’s take a look at some examples.

Examples:

  • Who is she?
    ¿Quién es ella?
  • Where are the keys?
    ¿Dónde están las llaves?

There are lots of interrogative pronouns in Spanish. Here is a complete list of them:

How?¿Cómo?
Why?¿Por qué?
Which?¿Cuál?

When writing questions in Spanish you always need to put an inverted question mark “¿” at the beginning of the question. Then you need to put a regular question mark “?” at the end of the question.

  • Cual
