Demonstratives indicating intermediate distance

The “ese” forms indicate objects at an intermediate distance or close to the listener: “Ese libro que tienes parece interesante” (That book you have looks interesting). They can also indicate psychological distance: “Ese día fue terrible” (That day was terrible).
