Uruguayan Spanish, like Argentine Spanish, is a form of Rioplatense Spanish. It’s characterized by the use of “vos” for informal singular address and the distinctive pronunciation of “ll” and “y” as “sh” (sheísmo). The dialect has Italian influences in its intonation. Unique expressions include “ta” (okay) and “botija” (kid), and there’s frequent use of the diminutive “-ito.”
