Puerto Rican Christmas Traditions

Puerto Rican Christmas is a festive blend of Spanish and Caribbean traditions lasting well into January. Parrandas, caroling parties that often last until dawn, are a beloved custom. The Misa de Gallo on Christmas Eve is followed by a feast of lechón asado (roast pig), arroz con gandules, and coquito (coconut eggnog). Gifts are traditionally brought by the Three Kings on January 6th, celebrated with the Fiesta de los Reyes Magos. Children leave grass for the kings’ camels in boxes under their beds.
