The Spanish imperfect tense is used to describe ongoing or repeated actions in the past. As most verbs follow a regular conjugation pattern in this tense, there are only three irregular verbs to remember:
- Ser (to be)
- Ir (to go)
- Ver (to see)
These verbs have unique conjugations in the imperfect tense:
Ser:
Yo | era |
---|---|
Tú | eras |
Él/Ella/Usted | era |
Nosotros/nosotras | éramos |
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes | eran |
Ir:
Yo | iba |
---|---|
Tú | ibas |
Él/Ella/Usted | iba |
Nosotros/nosotras | íbamos |
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes | iban |
Ver:
Yo | veía |
---|---|
Tú | veías |
Él/Ella/Usted | veía |
Nosotros/nosotras | veíamos |
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes | veían |
Remember these exceptions, as they are commonly used in everyday Spanish conversations. Mastering these irregular verbs will greatly improve your fluency when discussing past events or situations.
